This test accelerates corrosion so resistance can be measured. The part is placed in a chamber with heated salt water vapor and must withstand a set time without white corrosion (zinc layer) or red corrosion (base metal — the clamp itself). A 24-hour salt-spray rating means the zinc layer should not corrode after 24 hours in the chamber.
Our lab runs conventional salt-fog tests and cyclic corrosion tests required by the automotive industry to better simulate real adverse conditions (salt fog, rain, condensation, wet/dry cycles and temperature swings).
